I have, in the past, tried to declutter. I do it in fits and spurts, not really making an effort until things got really bad...until I couldn't stand the mess any more. The fact of it is that I'm very relaxed about cleaning most of the time.
It's not big in my world view, but still, it's always there.
I have tried a few different programs, most notably FlyLady. She has a very good program, actually. I really applaud her efforts to help people in an area where she found herself out of control. The program didn't work for me because it was too regimented, but I know it does work for a lot of people.
Instead of keeping up with the regimen I decided if something doesn't work you need to change your thinking. I purchased Declutter Your Home. I don't know if it's psychological or not, but the content is great, and not too preachy, and it comes with an mp3. This way I don't have to add another book to the pile, I only have to put it into my iPod and off I go. See? no clutter at all!
Once I had Declutter Your Home in my iPod, I was inspired...and I cleaned out a cupboard. Admittedly a small cupboard, but it was a start. I'm going to see if I can find a way of doing this without it all becoming too much. I hope you come along for the ride. :-)

A New Years Resolution Early- Introductory Post
I decided not to wait until the New Year to make my resolution on decluttering. The reason is simple: we are already in the silly season, and if I wait any longer I'm going to be confronted by mega-mess instead of simply just normal-mess. There's no time like the present. In this journal I'll be posting handy hints and recommending tools that have worked for me.
I hope you enjoy and join me on my decluttering journey.
